Minecraft and Wolfquest have possessed their brains. They burst through the door after school arguing about who gets the first turn on the computer. Somehow, every single day, it is a devastating surprise to them that they have to finish their homework first and that they only get a one hour on the Precious per day. I have to explain and defend any business that I have with the computer, so as not to disrupt the hierarchy of computer "needs". Sometimes they pool their computer time and all three of them gather cozily around the computer with their chairs pushed close together to watch videos of other people playing Minecraft or Wolfquest.
Whitney has recently spent the last month doing odd jobs for friends and saving her money for a Furby Boom. (She waited patiently and actually saved $40 dollars. I was surprised and impressed.) It arrived yesterday and they are inseparable. She seems to have forgotten about the Precious. I thought I'd finally get a chance to send off an email or two, but instead I found this:
He was like "...what?"
No problem. I still have my cell phone. I hate typing on that thing but its better than nothing. So I went looking for my phone and found this:
Apparently Furby Booms are pretty useless without the accompanying app.
I wish my kids came with an app that made them do things. Like turn off the computer and throw your Furby in the toilet. And talk to your mom. There is no autopilot when it comes to parenting. If you're not actively campaigning for their time and attention and betterment, they're ebbing away on a wave of media. When did that start happening? They're still babies.
Fortunately, friends and bikes and sunshine and snuggling on the couch to read library books still have pull. I've just got to find a way to preserve that for many years to come.
Well, to polish this off, here's a bunch of crappy-resolution pics from my phone that can speak for the last 6 months that I've been MIA:
Halloween:
Stuart got glasses which he loves and dotes on daily:
Whitney got to take a few friends to Chuck E. Cheese for her birthday:
And Spencie is a undie-wearing man these days:

Amen to the electronic tidal wave. It's crazy how they can get sucked in so easily. But then again, so can I. :) Our rule is no screen time on school nights (Monday through Thursday).
I love the pics of your kids. I can't wait to know Spencer.
Just less than three months til we pull into RR.
Marti here. Still alive, still reading your blog. Still unabashedly Porter loving.
