Christmas 2010

Christmas Eve:

New Christmas jammies

Coloring pictures of the manger scene

Christmas Morning:

 Helping each other open presents

Wearing each and every article of princess attire (except the extra tights)

Taking the new finger paints for a spin, preferably with a paint brush though.

Trying on every new color of lip gloss, blush and eye shadow.

Pushing a hot wheel while supervising Thomas and Percy's race around the tracks

Trying to scoop up the dinosaur with the new "loader"

A few of my favorite Christmas quotes:

Stuart: (Imagine the enthusiasm of an era-appropriate teenager seeing Elvis or the Beatles or Michael Jackson.) "NEW CARS!!!!"  (Seriously. Just like that.)

Whitney: "Do we get to keep the Barbies, mom? (concerned face) Do we have to give them back?"

Whitney: "Stuart, come help me open my present!"

Stuart: "Go, Thomas, go! Pump your pistons!"

everyone thinks their kid is a genius...

...but mine really is.
Today in the car, I told Whitney that after one more sleep would be my birthday and we're going to go to see a movie called Tangled about a princess with very long hair.
"Uh, mom, I think its called Rapunzel" says Whitney. Like doi...
Oh, right, sorry.
I never told her that but she's seen plenty of movie trailers. I'm sure they mention her name. So I continued, "And two more sleeps after that will be Christmas!"
"And that is only 3 more sleeps, mom!"
"That's right..." I say, a little incredulously. "1 plus 2 is 3. How did you know that?"
"And I know that 3 plus 3 is 6. And I also know that 5 plus 5 is 10."
What....? So, thinking maybe she's just memorized these numbers from some Sesame Street game, I prod a little further.
"What is 1 plus 3?"
"4. And also 2 plus 2 is 4."

Anyway, I'm pretty sure we sat silently for the rest of the ride while I turned over and over in my mind whether I've ever seen her playing math games on pbskids.org. I came up with nothing. I do recall, though, Whitney and Rob sitting in the living room the other night. I wasn't listening to their conversation. But at some point Rob said to me, "did you hear what she just said? She just told me that 4 and 5 is 9." I was moderately amazed but figured it was just something she'd heard before.
Nope. Turns out my 3 year old is a genius.

Sir Stuart

So, Whitney is going on about 2 weeks now in princess dress. But Stuart's going on about 2 months in his various sunglasses. These are just some of the looks he's sported recently:
Sir Elton

Mickey Mouse meets cat woman

Old Faithful (his favorites)

What a cool dude...

pretty whitty

I believe Aunt Kristina sent Whitney this princess dress about a year ago.  This picture was taken last December. It was the first and last time the dress would be worn by anyone...

Until now.

Today is Tuesday. This is day 6 of All Princess Dress, All the Time. Monday we added pink tights, which she wore all day today as well. They're getting pretty stinky.  But, MAN, she looks cute!
